What’s wrong with me?

Imagine waking up to find your bank account has exploded from mere dollars to billions overnight, and then continuing to make financial decisions as if you still only had a few dollars. Who does that? People who are used to being poor, and in this "all too real" section of Romans 7, the apostle Paul lets us in on a secret: struggling with sin happens for all of us who have decided to follow Jesus. It doesn't mean we aren't alive, though. It only means that we're learning how to live with our new nature.

Daily Devotions

Day 1: The Spiritual Jackpot

Scripture Reading: Romans 7:4-6

Reflection: Imagine you won a giant prize without doing anything to earn it. That's a bit like what Paul talks about when he says we're "alive in the spirit." Before we knew Jesus, we were like people with empty bank accounts, but after meeting Him, it's like we're billionaires! But remember, it's not about money—it's about spiritual riches.

Questions:

  1. What do you think it means to be spiritually rich?
  2. Can you think of a time when you felt really thankful for something you didn't earn?

Prayer: Dear God, help me to understand and feel the spiritual riches You've given me through Jesus. Amen.

Day 2: The Mirror of the Law

Scripture Reading: Romans 7:7-12

Reflection: The law, like a mirror, shows us when we're not doing the right thing, but it can't fix our mistakes. That's where Jesus comes in. He's the one who helps us clean up and start fresh. Just like when you see food stuck in your teeth in a mirror, the law shows us our "sin spinach."
