How to drive new cars on old roads

As our journey through Romans continues, we find ourselves at the hinge chapter of Paul's letter. He writes about the Holy Spirit 22 times in Romans 8 after only mentioning the Spirit 4 times in the first 7 chapters. Why the shift? Because we need the Spirit's power and comfort if we're going to allow Jesus to take the wheel and drive our new life on the old roads we still travel in this world. Join us as we discover how to live by the Spirit, control our thoughts, and take personal responsibility for our spiritual journeys.

Daily Devotions

Day 1: Embracing Your Identity in Christ

Today's Focus: Understanding Romans Chapter 8 Scripture: Romans 8:1 - "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."

Reflection: In the sermon, we learned that when we trust in Jesus, we are not condemned by our past mistakes. Just like driving a new car, we have a fresh start. Even when we drive over bumps and potholes, which represent our mistakes, we are still loved by God and free from guilt because of Jesus.

Questions:

  1. What does it mean to you to have 'no condemnation' in Jesus?
  2. How can you remind yourself of your new identity in Christ when you make a mistake?

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for loving me and giving me a new start in Jesus. Help me to remember that I am not defined by my mistakes, but by Your love. Amen.

Day 2: Renewing Your Mind

Today's Focus: Living by the Spirit in Romans Scripture: Romans 12:2 - "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."

Reflection: The sermon explained that our thoughts are like a playlist that can either be filled with worry and fear or with God's truth and love. By choosing to focus on what God says, we can fill our minds with peace and hope.

Questions:

  1. What are some thoughts you need to change to renew your mind with God's truth?
  2. Can you think of a Bible verse that helps you when you're feeling worried or afraid?
