Getting ready for giants

The story of David and Goliath teaches us the importance of faithfully using the gifts and skills God has given us, even in seemingly mundane circumstances. We learn that what we do in the every day is training for when God calls us to face bigger challenges. Like David tending sheep and practicing with his sling, we must diligently develop our spiritual 'tools' - prayer, scripture, and our relationship with God. By knowing who we are in Christ and staying grounded in His strength, we can confidently face any 'giant' that comes our way. This message encourages us to embrace our God-given identity, remain faithful in the small things, and trust that He will equip us for every battle.

Daily Devotions

Day 1: God Uses Our Everyday

Main Scripture: 1 Samuel 17:32-40

Devotional: David was just a young shepherd boy when God chose him to be the future king. While tending the sheep, David learned how to use a sling to protect them. This might not seem like a big deal, but these everyday skills helped him when he faced Goliath, a giant warrior!

Even when our daily tasks seem ordinary, God can use them to prepare us for great things in the future.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What are some everyday tasks you do that might seem ordinary?
  2. How can these tasks prepare you for bigger things God has planned for you?

Additional Scripture:

Day 2: Know Your Tools

Main Scripture: 1 Samuel 17:49

Devotional: David didn't use King Saul's armor because he wasn't used to it. Instead, he chose his sling—a tool he knew well. When we face challenges, it's important to use the gifts and tools God has given us. He has equipped us for the tasks He puts before us.
