But wait, there’s more!

This powerful message reminds us of the importance of waiting on God's timing and trusting in His goodness. Just as Jesus commanded His disciples to wait for the gift of the Holy Spirit in Acts 1:4-8, we too must learn to wait actively for God's power and direction in our lives. The key is to anchor our souls in the goodness of God, knowing that when He tells us to wait, there is always a good reason.

Daily Devotions

5-Day Devotional: "But Wait, There's More!"

Day 1: The Infomercial Hook

Scripture: Acts 1:4-5 (NIV) - "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."

Reflection: Have you ever watched an infomercial? They always say, "But wait, there's more!" This is like what Jesus said to His disciples. He told them to wait in Jerusalem because something amazing was coming—the Holy Spirit! The Holy Spirit would give them power to tell others about Jesus.

Questions to Think About:

  1. What are some things that make waiting hard for you?
  2. Why do you think Jesus told His disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit?

Additional Scripture: Isaiah 40:31 - "But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

Day 2: Trusting the Gift-Giver

Scripture: Acts 1:8 (NIV) - "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Reflection: Jesus promised a special gift—the Holy Spirit. Trusting Jesus is important because He always keeps His promises. When He tells us to wait, it's for a good reason.
